I haven’t eaten out and shopped this much in a 4-day span in my life. Multiple Outlet Malls. Multiple fancy seafood restaurants. I don’t know the totals, but I’m sure it’s over $500. According to this IBD article ‘Thanksgiving take totals $28 billion’, we are above average (not sure about per-person though):
The average amount spent over the long weekend was $302.81, up from $265.15 last year, and accounted for almost 36% of buyers’ holiday shopping. In addition, one in 13 people already finished shopping for the holidays.
So, I made a little poll to see how you all compared:
It was good to see the whole family, though. We aren’t going to be able to meet up for Christmas, so this was our annual get-together. And we are over 80% done with our holiday shopping now. Now please excuse me while I pass out.
We hosted family for thanksgiving so we’ve been feasting on the leftovers so we haven’t eaten out in the last four days… as for spending, technically I only spent a Schwab $100 gift card which cost me nothing so I’ve spent less than $50. 🙂
Yeah, the missus and I are going to have leftovers for the next week. Ham and Turkey sandwiches, anyone?
I managed to do a bit of online shopping this weekend, spent $35.
I spent a total of $11 for dining out, $20 at the grocer for a week’s worth of food, and about $200 on Christmas gifts. But I didn’t do my shopping until sunday evening, to avoid most of the insanity.
However, I made about $400 on ebay through the course of the week, so it more than evens out my expenditures. Not to mention the day job, etc.
Actually shopping wise….$160. For the entire weekend we spent $250-300 which includes gas, food, entertainment and shopping.
Fry’s had their friday sale with all these items on rebate. Well, I bought all those items, then spent hours getting the rebate crap together. Mailed out sunday.
Money “spent”: $350;
Money returned (some day) in rebate checks: ~$323
Postage: $3.70
Rebates suck…
we spent a bit due to the discounted prices. All household stuff though, 2 32″ lcd, 1 dvd/vhs player, 1 pc monitor coz our crt tv got busted, my monitor is dying….other than that its leftovers for a while.
My spouse said, “I don’t care about Buy Nothing Day. We need diapers.” So we went to CVS, and while we were out stopped in at a new independently owned bookstore in our area. Ran into five people I knew, and spent about $30.
We bought some Christmas lights at TrueValue and a balsam wreath from a local grower. Less than 50 bucks.
From reading the poll results, looks like most of y’all laid low and spent less than fifty bucks, if anything. Or maybe the big spenders are too shy to vote =)
I used to be very light on the shopping too, but marriage has made my shopping list increase by 1000%. Literally!
Spent about $600. Should get about $450 back in rebates, and the rest came from Finance deals, so I’m in good shape…
I bought a fridge:$375. Some paint: $30. Rollers, brushes, dropcloths, etc: $35.
Money saved from sales: $115
Money spent on other people: $0
