Mastercard has a holiday offer going where if you register your Mastercard credit card number and spend $200 online with it, you’ll get a $20 gift card. Valid for first 80,000 – this promo started yesterday and I have no idea how long that’ll last, so just treat this like a nice surprise if it comes.

* Starts 11/15/11. Ends 12/31/11 or while supplies last. Offline, PIN-based & international transactions ineligible. Gift Card quantities are limited to the first 80,000 eligible entrants & maximum 10,000 other gifts to next 10,000 eligible entrants.

  1. Does “You’re enrolled” mean you’re one of the first 80k?

  2. so what online purchases qualify?
can i pay my car insurance bill 200 bucks?

can i use my ing direct debit MasterCard ?

anyone that can understand the legalese please respond

  3. No idea how they’ll decide what is an online purchase or not, but I’ve signed up.

  4. @Nuir
Debit card is PIN based transaction so it’s not qualified.
Insurance bill paid online using MC should be ok.

  5. The way the wording of the terms is read, it would appear you need (1) enroll, (2) make the $200 purchase and (3) complete the gift card redemption form to qualify as a “entrant”. You need all three components.

“All steps outlined above (1-3 above, each collectively an “entry”) must be fully completed to be eligible to receive Offer Gift. If you do not complete all steps, you will not receive an Offer Gift.”

I haven’t had a merchant account for a long time, but I think it’s actually pretty easy to know which credit card purchases were processed online at a website versus in-person swipe.

  6. Signed up and spent the $200 today (my husband’s Christmas present, was planning to get it soon anyway). Now waiting for the ‘redemption form’ – think the signup thing said it could be a week. Will cross my fingers that i’m one of the 80,000.

  7. Would it be the first 80,000 people to complete all three steps or the first 80,000 to enroll…and then of those, only those people can complete steps 2 and 3?

  8. Looks like first 80,000 to complete all steps…

“How many Offer Gifts are being awarded?
Gift quantities are limited. There will be a maximum of (80,000) Offer Gifts awarded to the first (80,000) qualifying MasterCard cardholders who register, make qualifying transaction(s) toward Offer spend threshold, and complete the Redemption Form.”

Will a bank MC Debit card work if used as a credit card (and not use the PIN)?

  10. I spent $200 on about 12 cards between my wife and I – got the gift card forms for 8 of them today – we’ll see…

  11. GamecockLaw: The rules say if you register more than one card you will be disqualified from getting the $20 reward on any of them.

  12. Are people still getting the redemption forms via e-mail? I spent the $200, but I haven’t gotten the redemption form via e-mail. So I am wondering if 80,000 people have already qualified and the offer is over, or what.

  13. @Stephen: I spent the $200 on 11/16, but never got a claim form. So I guess we missed out?

  14. Found this on the faq’s for the offer: “I enrolled for the Offer and spent $200 on my MasterCard card online during the Offer Period but did not receive a redemption email – what can I do?

Please visit http://www.mastercard.com/holiday and send a request through the contact us link. The site customer service agents will look into the matter for you and respond to you by email. “

  15. I finished my last purchase on Dec 2, and received an email from Master Card to redeem the $20 gift card yesterday.

  16. GamecockLaw says

Does anyone know the ETA on the gift cards?

  17. GamecockLaw says

Never mind – got the first 4 in the mail today…

  18. I paid my Comcast bill online and got my redemption email today. My transaction was for $200 even though the bill was $78.00. I now have a $122.00 credit on my Comcast account. So I got paid for paying my bills! Sweet!!!

  19. @Diana

i did the same. i paid my car insurance bill 🙂
love getting paid to pay bills. wish i had more mastercards

  20. Thanks for letting us know about this offer. Clicked on link in redemption email: Your MasterCard card will be delivered in 1-2 weeks.

  21. Finally got a redemption email – sent a second email yesterday (12 days after my first, to which they said they would get back to me ‘shortly’), and also posted on their Facebook wall. Don’t know which got them moving, or if I would have gotten it today anyway, but I’m happy know. I should have the $20 in 1-2 weeks.

  22. er… happy “now”, not “know”. whoops!

  23. Can the $200 requirement be met via multiple transactions?

  24. @Vin – From the terms and conditions:

“Following Registration, you will be eligible for (1) Offer Gift for your first total online purchase transaction of $200 or more (via one or multiple transactions) on your registered Card during the Offer Period.”

  25. I got my card in the mail yesterday! Thanks for the tip Jonathan.

  26. I got my card today after multiple follow-ups with customer service for this promotion. Thanks for making me aware of it Jonathan!

  27. Cool, got my card in the mail today as well. No customer service problems for me, thankfully. It’s easy to use these cards, just ask for a split transaction and use up the $20 on the card and pay for the rest on another card.
