Update: This offer was ended early, basically saying they had to break their word because they were faced with huge losses. Not a well-run promotion.

radpad0With a new promotion by RadPad and Android Pay, you can pay your rent with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and earn points/miles/cash rewards through the end of 2016. Your landlord will simply receive a check on your behalf from RadPad.

Android Pay requires an NFC-enabled Android device running KitKat 4.4+ and the Android Pay app. A partial list includes LG G4, LG G5, HTC One M9, HTC 10, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7, and Moto X. Here is a 3rd-party list of NFC-enabled phones.

You must log into Pay with Radpad from an Android device or use the RadPad app, and then pay using Android Pay.

If you have a compatible phone, this promo seems like an easy way to rack up some extra frequent flier miles or satisfy a bonus requirement. You can schedule payments ahead of time if you wish. The standard fee is otherwise 3.49% for credit cards and free for debit cards. (You can now search for an apartment, sign your lease using Docusign, and pay rent using your debit card for free, all through Radpad.)

  1. Just curious to know whether this allows one to mail a check to anyone (self/spouse) posing as a landlord??

  2. Notable exceptions to “nearly any credit card” – Chase and Barclays don’t work with Android Pay

    • Thanks for the clarification, that is a good point. Previous promos have restricted to Visa or Mastercard, but this one appears to be open to any card that can be loaded to Android Pay.

  3. Unfortunately no you can’t. We’re only set up to process and pay verified rent payments. Please don’t set up a non-rent payment because it won’t be approved.

  4. How do they confirm and verify that I am really making a payment for rent? Joe Doe is my landlord; he owns only 2 condos that he rents out. What info is required for RadPad to verify Joe Doe is my landlord and not my trusted friend?
Also, what if your landlord lives with you? If Jane Doe owns a house and rents it out to 3 others; how can we use RadPad?

  5. So much for this promotion. Signed up and first they had issues is AmEx cards and then they sent out an email that said they were ending the promotion at end of August. Even if you signed up, they only are covering first month of credit card fees.

“Prior to the promotion, Android Pay users represented less than 5% of all rent payments on RadPad. Six days after the promotion, Android Pay users represented 70% and the number continues to climb. Thousands of renters have signed up in the last two weeks to pay their rent using Android Pay, equating to more than $5M in rents.

Although we are overwhelmed that the promotion has gained so much traction, we drastically underestimated just how many people would sign up to pay their rent with Android Pay; and within only a few weeks we’ve surpassed the budget for the entire year that was allocated to subsidize the credit card fee.
That is why we regret to inform everyone that beginning today, August 24th, 2016 we will no longer be able to offer the Android Pay promotion.

Anyone who signed up and qualified for the promotion prior to August 24th, 2016 will still enjoy free credit card fees as long as their rent is charged on or before August 31, 2016. However, we will not be able to offer the promotion through the end of the year. After August 31, 2016, the regular 2.99% fee will apply if you choose to continue using your credit card through Android Pay.”

  6. FYI they canceled this offer yesterday – just missed it 🙁
