So I had all my W-2s, 1099s, stock trades and dates, etc. ready to do my taxes. I sit down at the computer and… where did my tax software go? I know I took it out of the boxes, cut out the UPCs, and sent off the rebates. I already threw away the boxes, so there should be a little stack of CDs in my office… hours later… nada. Nowhere to be found. I’m seriously losing it.
I gave up and used the free filing (TurboTax) available online, but stopped short of filing. It looks like we’ll be getting about $1,000 back, which is good. Of course we didn’t qualify for anything but the standard deduction with no mortgage interest. But the state e-file option costs $24.95, and I already paid for tax software, dagnabbit! Five bucks to the person who tells me where to find it!
Tax Day… or not.

I entered my info on the turbo tax website. It asks for a day time phone number. A co-worker had a problem and called their customer service line from work. The employee at turbo tax asked my coworker is she knew me (gave her my name) then asked if she was me. He evidently got the info from my tax return. Not very confidential is it?? I was totally wigged out!
Even when you buy the TurboTax software the state e-file is $24.95. I bought TurboTax and federally e-filed because it was free after rebate, but sent in my state form by mail.
If you go to http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html they have links to file for free, using Turbo Tax and the like.
That’s not good about the privacy, I guess they don’t want to ask everyone for their SSN.
I thought e-file with TaxCut state was $9.95, but since I can’t find the CDs… I’ll probably mail them in as well.
